15-16 July Nevada, Idaho, Wyoming

15 July

9:50 am - On the road, after a mad scramble to find the cat.  An hour into the drive, realized that I forgot to lock the door to the house.  Ooops.

A beautiful day, warm in the high 90s, with low traffic and many orange cones.  First stop was Reno for gas and Starbucks.  Kept going with our next stop in Elko for gas on our way to our regular dinner spot, La Fiesta Fine Mexican Restaurant - after a romp in the park for Peri, the Camper Cat.  Back on the road to Wells, and up to Idaho to boondock at Salmon Falls Creek Reservoir (7PT/8MT). This turned out to be a great place to stay, not too far off the highway.  Evening recreation ended and everyone left so the night was just us and the amazing stars.

The time change made for an unexpected late start, but fishermen started arriving before 6am so we were groggy but awake.

The “rig”

We took a quick ride down to the water - challenging riding on sand and shale.

Then we were off to Twin Falls for some pickleball.  Six courts, in great condition, each separated by a fence.

After nearly 3 hours of fun on the courts, we headed to Koto Brewing Company for a tasty lunch of shredded pork tacos and lots of great beer.

Hours of picturesque agricultural land, first flat, then undulating, then valleys surrounded by high hills, all of which displayed a varied palette of brilliant green color.  Crossing over the snake River, the sky full of forbidding clouds, the Grand Tetons come into view.

On we go - up, up, up, down, down, down, across a valley, with moose, up, up, up, up, up, down, down, down, down and into Jackson Wyoming.  Friday evening yields much traffic and is bustling with people, and a passing shower leaves a pleasing scent and rich colors. Continuing on to Colter Bay, slowed by only one buffalo crossing, we finally find our site and settle in at 7pm for dinner.

A short ride to Jackson Lake finished off a warm day of stunning beauty.
